We need to develop 3 goals - they can be for your entire internship or work experience. You should use the SMART goal setting guide... make them SPECIFIC, MEASURABLE, ACTION PLAN, REALISTIC and TIME FRAME. For example: I would like to learn how to take apart a computer, and re install the programs so that it works more efficiently for the company. I will ask for assistance, look up video/tutorials this week and next. I plan to accomplish this by October 15, 2013.
A work example might be focused on expanding your duties - if you bag groceries at Hyvee maybe you would like to learn customer service, etc.
I do not think " get to work on time, or improve my attendance" are goals - you should already be doing this --- maybe talk with your host site and develop 3 goals together.
Remember you need to walk before you can run... take initiative - when you are done with your normal duties, ask what else you can do for the site. Maybe you have mastered your duties so far, ask if you can sit in on a planning meeting for a project in addition to these duties. You also have to remember that if you are only there for an hour a day, that you may be limited in what they can give you to accomplish. Do they have any suggestions for expanding your knowledge of the business/career?
S.M.A.R.T. goal setting helps you to set realistic goals also. Remember, you come with limited experiences, coursework and such. You will not start at the top, but this will give the business an opportunity to "try you out."
Please view the video and guide, then when you start your Internship or Work Experience, your goal sheet is DUE THE WEEK AFTER YOU START!
